How to watch every Marvel Movie Scene in Order

A scene by scene guide to rewatching the entire MCU in order

This guide will show you how to watch every Marvel movie in order of scenes, instead of order of films. It will require you to pause and resume multiple movies, so you can get to enjoy the scenes in the proper chronological order.

Why did we write this guide, you might ask? Well, primarily because of the void that the end of Phase 3 left, and the sad news that Spiderman might be kicked out of the MCU. Also, because after rewatching movies 1 through 23, we wanted to do something different and watch them in order of scenes.

So without any further ado, here is the Marvel Movie Scene Order!

  1. The most ancient scene in the MCU starts at the beginning of Thor 2, where Odin’s father Bor defeats the Dark Elves and seals away the Ether. This lasts about 10 minutes into Thor 2, at which point you can pause and move onto the next movie scene below.
  2. The correct order after this is to watch the beginning of Thor 1, and to pause as soon as Asgard is shown.
  3. Now we get to watch all of Captain America: The First Avenger, and stop it 1 minute before the end (before they find Captain and thaw him)
  4. Begin watching Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 and stop after they skip to the present (only watch the start with Kurt Russel and Starlord’s mom).
  5. Pop in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 1 and only watch the beginning where Peter Quill gets abducted by the Ravagers.
  6. Now start watching Ant-man and yes, only the flashback scene at the beginning where Hank Pym resigns from S.H.I.E.L.D. (Yes we know, Marvel Studios loves starting their movies off with flashbacks)
  7. This is the tricky part as it involves Age of Ultron, and you can probably find this scene on YouTube. If you have the DVD, skip to the scene where they show about 30 seconds of Black Widow’s past, and then stop. If you don’t, then just YouTube “Black Widow flashback scene”.
  8. This part is pretty easy. Captain Marvel happens in 1995 and the flashback scenes are from the Skrull mindblender, so we will take the liberty of watching the entire movie start to finish.
  9. Now it’s time for Captain America: Civil War. Only watch the beginning where they show how Bucky is put through the Hydra mind blender.
  10. Here’s another easy part and a break from all the pausing; you may watch Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and Iron Man 2 in their entirety from beginning to end.
  11. Once done with the above marathon, you can watch Doctor Strange up until there part where he starts his training (as it lasts several years).
  12. Time to unpause #3 and watch the last minute we missed of Captain America!
  13. Watch the first training scene of Doctor Strange.
  14. Unpause #2 and watch the rest of Thor.
  15. You can look at yet another training scene from Doctor Strange.
  16. Now you get to watch The Avengers in their entirety!
  17. This following scene is kind of perfect after The Avengers; watch the beginning of Spiderman Homecoming, where the Vulture is cleaning up NYC and gets his contract stolen by Stark.
  18. Another Doctor Strange training scene.
  19. Pop in Iron Man 3 and watch all of it.
  20. Yes, another Doctor Strange scene.
  21. Unpause #1 and watch the rest of Thor 2.
  22. Doctor Strange scene again.
  23. All of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
  24. Watch one last scene of Doctor Strange (only one! do not finish it yet!)
  25. Unpause Guardians of the Galaxy vol.1 from #5 and finish all of it.
  26. Unpause Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2 from #4 and finish all of it as well.
  27. You thought we were done with Doctor Strange? Nope. One more scene. If you haven’t figured it out yet; the Marvel movie scene order is a pain.
  28. Now you get to see Avengers: Age of Ultron and skip through the Black Widow scene that we watched previously.
  29. Unpause Antman from #7 and finish it.
  30. Unpause Captain America: Civil War from #8 and finish it.
  31. Now, the moment we have been waiting for! You may finish all of Doctor Strange (whatever’s left of it anyway. If you watched 1 scene at a 1 time like this guide says, your chronological order should be perfect).
  32. Now here’s the really tricky part. Thor 3: Ragnarok and Spiderman happen at the same time, so here’s what we are going to do… Watch 2 scenes of Thor, then 2 scenes of Spiderman, 2 scenes of Thor, and then 2 more scenes of Spiderman. If you actually have a life and a job, then you might consider maybe watching 5 scenes at a time, or however many you feel comfortable with.
  33. Watch all of Black Panther.
  34. Avengers: Infinity War happens at the same time as Antman and the Wasp, so we suggest to watch 3-4 scenes of each at the same time. The Snap happens before Antman 2 ends, so keep that in mind.
  35. Watch all of Avengers: Endgame (we were debating about whether we should incorporate the Time Heist into this chronological order, but since the Time Thieves only affected an alternate universe, then it’s not necessary.)
  36. Watch all of Spiderman 2 Homecoming

NOTE: We did not include any talk of After Credits scenes because it would have been a mess already bigger than it is. We hope that you enjoy watching the Marvel movie scene order as much as we did! Like and share our scene by scene guide to the MCU!

#22 Avengers: Endgame

The twenty-second film in the Marvel movie order.

The infinity saga comes to a close in this three-hour long tour-de-force.

The three-hour end into the Infinity Saga (along with also the direct sequel to Infinity War) delivered the conclusion we anticipated: the living Avengers reversed Thanos’ breeze, bringing the MCU’s fallen heroes and half of the universe. However before it gets there, Avengers: Endgametook time to permit individuals who stayed to grieve, resulting in an unlikely time heist to grab the Infinity Stones in the last –and see preceding MCU movies. However, Thanos’ final defeat does not come without sacrifices and manifestation. Black Widow sacrificed himself Vormir, Iron Man sacrificed himself to deliver the last blow to Thanos, Thor passed his crown Valkyrie, and Captain America remained in the last after returning the Infinity Stones and grew older before departure on his shield into Sam Wilson.

#21 Captain Marvel 2019

The twenty-first film in the Marvel movie order.

We are introduced to one of the most powerful figures in the MCU; Captain Marvel.

Largely happening in 1995, Captain Marvel is a source story for Air Force pilot Carol Danvers, who’s caught in the center of a war between the Kree and the Skrulls. After she crash-lands on Earth, she matches S.H.I.E.L.D. representative Nick Fury, finds the life she had on Earth, the way she came to her forces , also learns there is quite a bit more into the war than meets the eye.

Brie Larson seems to be largely miscast as Captain Marvel, as this movie is carried by the brilliant acting of Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelson.

#20 Ant-Man and the Wasp 2018

The twentieth film in the Marvel movie order.

We explore Scott Lang’s world during house arrest, as Hank and his daughter ask for his help.

Ant-Man along with the Wasp had the impossible job of following Avengers: Infinity War, also it sensibly chose to do its own thing rather than attempting to one-up Thanos. Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who have been on the run by the FBI because the events of Captain America: Civil War, have assembled a tube which will take them to the Quantum Realm so that they could save a trapped Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer). However they want a lost piece of this puzzle out of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), who is three times from the end of the house-arrest sentence. With loads of callbacks into the very first Ant-Man, the verbal and visual gags largely soil, and the actions scenes are engaging and also take whole benefit of its own landscape. Although it probably will not convert any viewers that aren’t keen about its own titular hero, Ant-Man along with the Wasp is an enjoyable and funny movie that does not overstay its welcome.

#18 Black Panther 2018

The eighteenth film in the Marvel movie order.

We are re-introduced to Black Panther in his first standalone movie, following Civil War.

Combining his vision of futurology and make-believe, movie director Ryan Coogler attracted new life into the Marvel franchise that this year. Featuring Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther, this picture brought us to the origin of Wakanda, a hidden African nation using hyper-futuristic tech and also a rich cultural back story. Much of the dialogue around Dark Panther concentrates on its own effect for a blockbuster using a mostly afro-american cast. The general pandering to black audiences forced Hollywood elites to recognize this film at the Academy Awards and nominate it for picture of the year (in order to virtue signal how progressive they are). The movie is a breathe of fresh air for the MCU, it is filled with witty dialog and helps us feel attached to its quirky characters.

#17 Thor: Ragnarok

The seventeenth film in the Marvel movie order.

Thor, Loki and the Hulk are re-united in this hilarious adventure through space.

Taika Waititi’s sense of humor was a best fit for its absurdity of this Thor franchise, preventing it from the too intense tone of Thor: The Dark Planet . The supporting cast members were equally so outstanding (Jeff Goldblum! Tessa Thompson! Cate Blanchett! , and the creation designers Jack Kirby-inspired vision of the Marvel universe. It among the greatest comedies of all 2017, and in addition to that, it comprises a few subtext that is thoughtful.

#16 Spider-Man: Homecoming

The sixteenth film in the Marvel movie order.

The 3rd cinematic reboot of Peter Parker finally gets a standalone movie within the actual MCU.

Rebooting the franchise once more, Homecoming needed a challenging job. It needed to reintroduce a personality that audiences were sick of visiting, and do this in a new and entertaining manner. It triumphed with aplomb. Tom Holland is amusing and virtually young in a teen comedy that returns to Spider-Man’s origins and upgraded the franchise with a varied cast of modern characters. Zendaya won our hearts as Peter Parker’s grungy feminist friend Michelle, and Michael Keaton’s Vulture is one of the MCU’s best supervillains up to now. The only downside was a somewhat pedestrian showdown at the last action, alerting the total message which Peter Parker needs to be a team player rather than attempting to go it alone.

#15 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 2017

The fifteenth film in the Marvel movie order.

Starlord’s origins are revealed and so is the expansion of the MCU’s galactic reach.

The very first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was a breath of fresh air for the Marvel franchise, even if we weren’t especially impressed. The sequel, however, was disappointingly formulaic. It closely followed the original in a way that felt cynical the second time around. We adore a catchy soundtrack as far as another person, however, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. Two was a dull story with a toxic and sexist sense of humor, disguised by quite special effects and a few nostalgic music choices. (Though we do admit that Baby Groot is very cute.)

#13 Captain America: Civil War 2016

The thirteenth film in the Marvel movie order.

Tony and Captain’s conflict reaches a boiling point as the newly re-activated Winter Soldier causes chaos. This movie is extremely important as it shows that the collateral damage from the Avengers’ conflict does not go unnoticed (or in this case; unpunished).

Occasionally known as “Avengers 2.5,” many of Marvel’s superheroes need to decide on a side following superheroes are expected to enroll as superheroes below the Sokovia Accords. We are introduced to Black Panther and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man for the very first time while the struggle between Iron Man and Captain America (with Bucky Barnes directly at the middle) immediately gets personal for both of them. A number of the heroes wind up moving into hiding while Bucky is placed under while Wakanda’s greatest figure out how to eliminate his brainwashing.

#9 Captain America: The Winter Soldier 2014

The ninth film in the Marvel movie order.

We are re-introduced to Captain’s original nemesis; the Hydra organization. They have survived World War 2 and have infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D

As a mournful and politically astute follow to the nostalgic Captain America: The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier includes all –except adequate cinematography throughout the battle scenes, as a result of the dearth of activity filmmaking encounter from directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Sebastian Stan excels as the intimidating yet horrible Winter Soldier, the psychological lynchpin of this trilogy. Black Widow, whose characterization is differently irregular throughout the franchise, obtained her very best role so far, together with Sam Wilson being released as Steve’s much-needed emotional service –likely the only happy man in the whole film.

There is so much happening in The Winter Soldier that lovers are still assessing it years after, from the numerous visual callbacks into the very first movie, to the topics of memory loss and individuality, to the political subtext of HYDRA and S.H.I.E.L.D.. The sole drawback is the fact that it set the bar too large for Captain America: Civil War, that was fun but jelqing and did not deliver the psychological payoff fans anticipated for the Winter Soldier’s salvation arc.

Malekith is defeated, but not until Thor sees Loki perishe before his eyes. Unbeknownst to him though, Loki, while masquerading as Odin, manages Asgard. #7 Iron Man 3 2013

The seventh film in the Marvel movie order and the start of Phase 2.

This is also the final Iron Man standalone movie as of 2019, and it really shows how Tony has grown since waking up in a cave.

The next Iron Man film was a box office success however produced surprisingly little effect on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, maybe since Avengers: Age of Ultron stomped throughout its completion of Tony Stark’s narrative arc. Directed and co-written from Shane Black (who produced the exceptional Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, starring Robert Downey Jr.), its interpretation of the Mandarin is one of the most subversive thoughts in the MCU–although admittedly, there is not much competition for this title. Iron Man 3 also concentrates on Tony’s PTSD, allowing Robert Downey Jr. to provide a more powerful performance than the previous Iron Man movie.

#6 The Avengers 2012

The sixth film in the Marvel movie order and the epic conclusion to Phase 1 of the MCU.

The entire Avengers team is brought together to take on Loki and the forces bestowed upon him by Thanos.

Marvel’s shared World floundered a Bit with Age of Ultron along with Captain America: Civil War, However, The Avengers delivered every Lover’s hopes to Get a crossover between the MCU’s Initial Stage of superheroes.

All the Avengers fit together like puzzle pieces, throughout the final battle order, which will be an reimagining of the group battle scenes of these comics and both narratively. The Avengers also had the dubious honour of altering Hollywood’s attitude toward livelihood, inspiring each other studio to try out a crossover group film. Thus far, not one of these have managed to exceed the achievement of The Avengers.

Introduces us to Captain America, played by Chris Evans, who becomes the supposed leader of the Avengers initiative.

The Captain America source narrative brings us back into World War II since Steve Rogers is converted to a powerful fighter using super-soldier serum and butts heads with Red Skull and HYDRA cronies. Featuring among Marvel’s finest romances (and among its most powerful ships), it reasons a personality which may be cartoonish full using a tragic ending. Obviously, we understand ice will be gradually got out of by Captain America. He is plucked out in present day, he immediately figures out, placing him to be a vital portion of the Avengers.

#4 Thor 2011

The fourth film in the Marvel Movie Order.

It introduces Thor, a huge fan favourite, and helped catapult the brilliant Australian actor Chris Hemsworth into the global spotlight.

Anyone who believes Thor is poor could fight me. It is humorous, heartfelt, also has several well-written female characters within a genre that normally brings the line at including a single girl at a love interest character. Loki remains a high point in the MCU’s pantheon of frequently lackluster villains, introducing Tom Hiddleston into the planet as a creepy nonetheless magical mysterious god. This film is also a powerful reminder that Chris Hemsworth is a lot better at comedy than serious dramatic roles, according to his operation at Ghostbusters.

#3 Iron-Man 2 2010

The third film in the Marvel Movie Order.

A fan favourite with some A-list actors finally being introduced (Mickey Rourke as Whiplash). Tony’s character sees development as he struggles with the reality of becoming Iron Man.

Iron Man 2 is a revenge story: The son of a disgraced physicist (who once worked with Howard Stark) attempts to ruin Tony Stark’s reputation, but in the grand scheme of the MCU, the movie is marked by the introduction of two new characters: a new James Rhodes (now played by Don Cheadle) and also the first appearance of Black Widow. It also leads directly into Thor as S.H.I.E.L.D. representative Phil Coulson belongs to New Mexico to research Thor’s hammer MjĂžlnir.

#2 The Incredible Hulk 2008

The second film in the Marvel movie order.

Not the most critically acclaimed MCU movie, but it introduced an important character nonetheless.

Bruce Banner’s origin story–he turned to the Hulk following a failed experiment trying to recreate the serum which made Captain America–has been disclosed together with the Hulk’s early years as he tries to discover a way to cure himself–none of that, of course, turned out to be very profitable. Even though it’s a part of the MCU (albeit a picture some fans have a tendency to bypass ), Marvel replaced lead actor Edward Norton with Mark Ruffalo, who is played supporting roles in many Marvel films as. Along with the Avengers thread proceeds with Tony Stark passing along side of earning a team.
